Building and Renovation Schools

The recent incident marked the deadliest school-related tragedy in Iran since December 5, 2012, when a fire broke out at an all-girls elementary school in the northwestern town of Shinabad. During that unfortunate event, a faulty oil stove exploded while being used to heat a classroom in winter, resulting in the tragic loss of two young lives and injuring 26 others.

Back in March 2003, it was estimated that a staggering 70 percent of schools in Iran required reconstruction and retrofitting. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the government and generous individuals, this figure has been significantly reduced to 30 percent. However, there are still approximately 107,000 schools across the nation, encompassing 530,000 classrooms, of which 160,000 are in a state of disrepair and do not meet safety standards, accounting for 30 percent of schools nationwide.

Iran is fortunate to have numerous benefactors dedicated to school construction, with approximately 650,000 individuals within the country and 1,000 abroad actively contributing. Notably, around 10 percent of charitable schools have been established with the involvement of overseas charities. This collective effort is a valuable asset that deserves to be further promoted and expanded upon.
